    Nanowrimo argh!
Remind me? That the whole point of this is not deathless prose, but a workable first draft? Because I'm two scenes in, and I'm kind of... begging my characters to become characterized. Argh. I've got two that sound exactly like each other, an airhead, and my so-called romantic interest is coming across as bland as toast. Ack. Ack. Ack. Plus, I want to go back and revise him already. I just... argh.

Anyone know a good, easy way to work in physical descriptions of your viewpoint characters, that doesn't go clunk clunk clunk when you read it?

    NaNoWriMo. yargh.
Well, I'm gonna do it. Write a novel here during November. Scenes from a Mall may or may not hit 50,000 words, but that's the goal. This journal will still be friends-locked, but I'm going to *try* to write something every day.

General idea: Well. Scenes. From a mall. A romance. An Anya-esque heroine, assistant manager in a store. Her friends. Young adults, weirdness. The Easter Bunny. Toys. Nordic gods. Possibly, shoplifters. We'll see.

I have no plot, but that's not required, so, what the hell?

    Opening remarks
    Be it resolved:

    * That if Mercedes Lackey and Sharon Green are still getting published, it's not the quality of the writing, it's the breaking-in process, and I intend to buy lockpicks.

    * That if Peter David and Diane Duane can start out in fanfic, and get paid for it, and evolve and grow into writing really good original novels, then obviously, it can be done.

    * That if writers I love, like Charles De Lint and Guy Gavriel Kaye and Lois McMasters Bujold, keep improving with every novel, there's nothing to say that I won't be good enough to get published someday, if I just keep at it.

    THEREFORE:

This journal is now established, for the purpose of encouraging me to finish the two barely-started novels I have on my hard drive: "Redeeming Qualities" and "The Dreaming Road."
